Semester Exams

Posted by on Nov 27, 2017 in General Information | Comments Off on Semester Exams

Middle and High school students will be taking semester exams on December 18th, 19th, and 20th.  Because these exams are very important to students and teachers, the students will only take two exams each day and then the students will be released early to go home and prepare for the next day’s exams.

On December 18th and December 19th, Woodlawn students will release early, at 10:15 AM.  On December 20th, Woodlawn students will release early at 11:15 AM.

It is very important that students are in attendance on these days as district policy is that no exams will be given early.

Finally, please be reminded that district policy states that students that miss 10 or more days from any class must receive a passing grade on the exam in order to receive credit for the class.  Students that are excessively absent that fail the semester exam will also fail the semester for that class, regardless of what grade they had in the class prior to the test.

As we near the exam days, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.  Otherwise, please know, again, that these exams are required for all students and are very important for students and teachers.  Please help your student prepare for them (good breakfast in the morning, rest the night before, be in regular attendance, etc.).

Thank you.

Florida House of Representatives Page and Messenger Program

Posted by on Nov 8, 2017 in General Information | Comments Off on Florida House of Representatives Page and Messenger Program

Woodlawn students, are you interested in civics, government, and the work that Florida’s Senators, Representatives, and other elected officials perform?  If so, consider the Florida House of Representatives Page and Messenger Program!

The Page & Messenger Program is a long-standing tradition in the Florida House of Representatives. Historic journals include mention of them as far back as 1865. Each student who serves as a Page or Messenger will have his or her name appear in the Journal of the House. This will be an official record of their time spent in the Florida House to one day show their children and grandchildren.

Pages and Messengers have the opportunity to observe lawmakers, lobbyists, staff, and constituents working together in the legislative process. Opportunities will include committee meetings, House sessions in the Chamber, and occasionally press conferences with notable people or celebrities.

As time allows, Pages and Messengers may have the opportunity, with chaperones, to leave the Capitol and tour the Governor’s Mansion, the Florida Supreme Court, the Museum of Florida History, and the Historic Capitol. Students often hold a mock session in the House Chamber to put their newfound knowledge to use.

The Page & Messenger Program offers students a fun and educational experience that will not be forgotten.

Schools will be closed November 10 for observance of Veterans Day.  For 98 years, Americans have remembered those who served our country in uniform on November 11 – first as Armistice Day, and then, since 1954 as Veterans Day.  In this 99th year of commemoration, Woodlawn continues to honor those who have served.  We have a long standing tradition of honor, respect, and appreciation for our military veterans.  We thank you for your service, enjoy your day Friday.
