Hospitality Committee

The Hospitality Committee is a parent/guardian-driven organization whose mission is to support the faculty and staff of Woodlawn Beach Middle School. It also gives parents/guardians a chance to get to know one another. Membership is voluntary, and every family is invited to participate, whether through financial donations, tangible donations, or time spent.

Founded in 2006, the committee has grown steadily. Typically, families join in the fall, but newcomers are welcome at any time during the year.

Options for participation include a fundraising event, committee leadership, monthly and intermittent appreciation days throughout the year, and helping with the Christmas Tea for all WBMS faculty and Teacher Appreciation Week for teachers and non-instructional staff. Most months, the group tries to provide a little pick-me-up for the faculty and staff, such as a snack, school supplies, or, during flu season, tissues and hand sanitizer. The Christmas Tea for the entire faculty and staff includes a gift from a student and the student’s family, as well as a buffet of yummy treats made by our committee’s members. During every day of Teacher Appreciation Week, we try to do something to show our gratitude to the faculty. For example, during 2010 Teacher Appreciation Week, the committee planted a flower garden in front of the school, provided two meals, offered a gift raffle, and conducted a student essay contest on the topic of teacher appreciation.

Even if you cannot be at school during the day, there is a place for you. The committee needs chaperones, bakers, gardeners, organizers, financial contributors, communicators, people to work with the students, and people to appear on ITV. Sign up today because there is something for everyone!
