Do you have a child who will be entering kindergarten this fall for the 2019-20 school year? If so, the following information is important and will be helpful to you:
- Florida law (Section 1003.21(1)(a)2, Florida Statutes) specifies that children who have attained the age of five years on or before September 1 of the school year are eligible for admission to public kindergarten during that school year. Children who turn 5 after September 1 must wait until the next school year to enroll in kindergarten.
- We ask that parents of incoming kindergarten students go to the school in their zone to register their child for kindergarten, as soon as possible. It is very important that parents not wait until later in the summer or into August to register their child/children, because we hire teachers based on the number of students we have. It helps us with hiring, when we know well in advance how many students we will have in the coming year.
