Educator Certification is administered and implemented by the Bureau of Educator Certification, Florida Department of Education.  For information regarding the requirements for certification in a specific subject area or field, contact the Bureau of Educator Certification, Department of Education at 1-800-445-6739 or FLDOE Website.

School Board Policy requires the filing for a valid Florida Teacher's Certificate within the first 90 days of employment.  An official statement of eligibility from the Department of Education will outline any needed requirements.   It is important for this statement to be read and followed.

Personnel must be eligible for a certificate before appointment or reappointment.  The primary function of the Santa Rosa School Board Certification Department is to insure that instructional personnel are certified.

The services provided by the Santa Rosa County Certification Office does not relieve the applicant/employee of meeting certification requirements.  Florida State Board Rule reads, "It is the responsibility of each applicant to complete all requirements for a certificate."

To be eligible for a Florida Certificate applicants must meet the following initial certification requirements:

  • Complete the application process
  • 2.5 grade point average in subject area
  • Specialization requirements or
  • A bachelor's or higher degree and a passing score on an acceptable subject area test
