CIPA Compliance

Santa Rosa County School District complies with the Children’s Internet Protection Act. Per guidelines with respect to the Children’s Internet Protection Act, the district Internet safety policy must address all of the following issues:

Access by minors to inappropriate matter on the Internet and World Wide Web

Standalone content filter software should be loaded on any computers outside the WAN accessing the Internet via a modem.”

NOTES:  Code of Student Conduct process of review with students is addressed on the first page of the document by the Superintendent’s letter to parents. “The school administrators and teachers will be reviewing this Code of Student Conduct along with the school’s student handbook to bring attention to the rules, guidelines and consequences that have been established.”

The AUP for students is addressed during the Code of Student Conduct reviews and sent home for parental signatures. The opening statement addresses CIPA, though doesn’t : PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING. NO STUDENT WILL BE GIVEN FULL INTERNET ACCESS UNLESS THE PARENT/GUARDIAN SIGNS THIS POLICY THAT ANNOUNCES THE POSSIBLE RISKS OF USING THE INTERNET AND MICROSOFT OFFICE 365. Electronic Communications Policy (p. 14) Student Guidelines

1.       The content filter will be configured to block all sites that are obscene, contain child pornography, are harmful to minors, or are determined to be inappropriate for minors.

2.       Generally non-educationally-oriented e-commerce sites will be blocked for students by the content filter.

3.       Email will be screened for inappropriate words. Teachers are required to sponsor student email accounts (ePals, Gaggle.net, or if available, district student email) on behalf of any

4.       student who needs this service. The sponsoring teacher has the primary responsibility to monitor these email accounts and ensure they are used appropriately. District personnel will conduct random audits of district student email accounts.

5.       “Hacking” and other unlawful activities online, and unauthorized disclosure, use and dissemination of personal identification information is prohibited.

6.       Students at all grade levels will receive instruction on appropriate online behavior – including interacting with other individuals on social networking sites and in chat rooms – and cyberbullying awareness and response.7.
