Subject: Rescheduling the August 18th negotiations session
Importance: High
Good afternoon,
At the time of this email, enrollment in Santa Rosa County District Schools is under what was projected for the 22-23 school year. As you are aware, student enrollment is the primary factor on which the District’s budget is developed and projected. In addition to low enrollment numbers, students who have yet to enter the system can’t be removed until after the tenth day of school. The uncertainty created by low enrollment numbers will prevent the District from being able to meet on August 18, 2022 or to offer a counter proposal to SRPE at this time. The District is aware that SRPE’s expectation is an updated monetary proposal from the District during the next negotiations session; however, the financial burden created by low enrollment will hinder the District’s ability to propose any further offers until the impact of low student enrollment numbers is assessed. The tenth day of school will be on August 23, 2022, with students not yet attending being removed from the system starting August 24, 2022. The District has been closely monitoring enrollment on a daily basis and is optimistic that enrollment will continue to increase through the first full week of September. Please identify some dates beyond this timeframe when SRPE would be available to reschedule the upcoming negotiations session. The District is optimistic that it will be in a position to put a good faith offer on the table once the student enrollment numbers are more certain.
