    This site offers useful reading resources on the Internet.
  • FirstGov for Kids
    Welcome to the U.S. government interagency Kids' Portal. This site was developed and is maintained by the Federal Citizen Information Center. It provides links to Federal kids' sites along with some of the best kids' sites from other organizations all grouped by subject.

Parent Literacy Links

  • Summer Reading
    Strategies and activities to promote summer reading so that educational gains are not lost. Although written for teacher implementation in the classroom, these strategies could easily be used by parents.
  • Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Series
    Every summer, Barnes and Noble coordinates a reading program for 6th grade students. If the students receive a certain amount of books, they will receive a free one.
    This year’s book focus is the Magic Tree House series.
  • Just Read, Families!
    Just Read, Families! is a summer reading program which provides parents with information about actively reading with their children during the summer months. Included on this site are links to recommended reading lists for each of the Florida school districts, ideas for parents, and a kids' page.
  • Great Ideas!
    This web site is filled with reading ideas and tips for parents. 
  • Library Links
    The Florida Department of State sponsors a reading program called the Florida Library Youth Program (FLYP). FLYP is a summer reading program that aims to provide opportunities for children and their families to discover the joy of reading together through reading incentive programs, crafts, and music. This site includes a list of public county libraries and information about what summer reading activities are going on in your area.
  • National Center for Family Literacy
    The mission of the National Center for Family Literacy is to help parents and children achieve their greatest potential together through quality literacy programs. Contained on this site are reading tips and resources for parents.
  • The Partnership for Reading
    The Partnership for Reading offers information about effective teaching of reading for children, adolescents, and adults, based on evidence from quality research. Look for parent resources to help young children become readers.
  • National Education Association's Help for Parents
    The National Education Association provides resources to help parents understand testing as well as resources to help your child with reading, math, and science.
