**Santa
Rosa County Take Stock in Children Gets Major Challenge Grant
What is Take Stock in Children?
Take Stock in Children is a not-for-profit program administered
by the Santa Rosa Education Foundation providing scholarships, mentors
and hope to deserving, low-income youth in Santa Rosa County. Students
are identified in sixth through ninth grade through an application
and selection process in our public schools. Businesses and individuals
donate funds that are matched through the Florida Prepaid program
to provide the scholarships for students in our community.
| To be in the program, children must: |
| |
• |
Be selected between sixth and ninth grade by guidance
counselors and community representatives. |
| |
• |
Maintain satisfactory grades. |
| |
• |
Exhibit good attendance and behavior in school. |
| |
• |
Have a financial need and be determined to succeed. |
Upon graduation from high school, each student who has honored
the Take Stock in Children commitment receives a full tuition scholarship
to a college or a vocational/technical school. By becoming a Take
Stock in Children sponsor or mentor, you give a child in this community
hope for the future and contribute to the future of our community.
Sponsor
a Scholarship
As a scholarship sponsor with Take
Stock in Children, you improve the quality of life for a child through
education. Gifts of any amount will help fund a deserving student’s
scholarship. As an exclusive sponsor, your $5,000 contribution will
be matched with state funds to provide a scholarship of $10,000
for a local child’s four-year post-secondary education. Any amount
will be matched and pooled together to fund a scholarship. Sponsors
receive yearly updates on the student and are invited to the annual
graduation gala. As a sponsor, you are giving the greatest gift
of all – EDUCATION.
| As a scholarship sponsor, you can: |
| |
• |
Contribute to a local child’s scholarship fund. |
| |
• |
Meet the child and his/her family. |
| |
• |
Mentor the child you sponsor. |
| |
• |
100% of your contribution will go directly to the scholarship
and your gift is tax-deductible. |

Become
a Mentor
You can change a child’s life by becoming a mentor.
By showing a child that someone cares, you will help that student
become a productive citizen. You will complete an application process,
receive training from the Take Stock staff and be matched with a
student who can benefit most from your influence.
| As a mentor, you: |
| |
• |
Meet once a week with your student for one hour at his
or her school. |
| |
• |
Become a friend, tutor, and a role model. |
| |
• |
Help build a student’s foundation of basic values. |
| |
• |
Assist your student in setting goals and attaining them. |
| |
• |
Guide a student toward an education and a productive
life. |
| |
• |
Give a student hope for the future. |
How does the mentoring process work?
Your
weekly mentoring session will take place on the school campus at
a time that is convenient for both you and your student. In addition,
you will have the support of the TSIC staff and resources available
online to help you work with the student.
